Jason Carpenter is an Emmy and Annie Award–winning animation director based in Santa Monica. He has spent twenty years making animation and images for film, television, installations and live performance.
His feature credits include animation direction on the documentaries He Named Me Malala, The Biggest Little Farm, The Mission, Ruth: Justice Ginsburg in Her Own Words, The Price of Free and All These Sons, among others.
For television he has directed the animation in Watch the Sound with Mark Ronson (Apple TV+), The Next Thing You Eat with David Chang (Hulu), and Worn Stories (Netflix).
He co-directed The Forgotten Four, a series of animated films for Meow Wolf’s Convergence Station in Denver.
His work for stage and museums includes projects for the Venice Biennale, New York City Ballet, the Wiener Staatsballett, the Danish Dance Theatre, the Smithsonian and the Guggenheim Museum.
He is currently directing the animated short Misty, thirty minutes of animation for an eight-part documentary series, and the animation for Hindou, a feature in production with Random Good.
In 2022 he co-founded Bright Eye, an animation studio for real stories.
